Specialist compost for pond marginals and moisture loving plants promotes root growth, leading to strong top growth later in the season.  This soil is completely safe for wildlife in and around the pond.  Stability and weight is provided by added grit in the mixture.

Using general bedding compost could potentially have fatal effects on fish as it has high fertiliser content designed for quick release.

Aquatic compost has a slow-release fertiliser, thus avoiding pollution, as the plants will absorb the nutrients as they are released from the soil.
